Having been forced to cancel for the second year in a row, this (hopefully) once in a lifetime special event has been created by Glastonbury to bring a touch of festival magic to audiences on livestream and in cinemas.

Live at Worthy Farm is a film by Paul Dugdale showcasing a variety of unique live performances from artists and special guests – only the crowds of festival goers are missing.

The largest Sea of Light we ever created surrounds Coldplay at the famous Pyramid stage and features in some fantastic drone shots too.

]]> Waterfall https://ithaca.studio/2020/02/14/waterfall/ Fri, 14 Feb 2020 11:19:25 +0000 https://ithaca.studio/?p=4489 Presenting Waterfall by Ithaca. A 20 meter high animated waterfall of light cascading down from the Treetop Walkway into a pool of Light for Christmas at Kew 2019.

 

Inspired by some of the world’s natural wonders such as Niagara Falls, Waterfall featured over 9,000 LEDs spread across an area of nearly 4,000 square meters. 

 

The waterfall was created from layered strings of custom made mirrored LED spheres, supported by netting interwoven with highly reflective foils which created a delightful daytime aesthetic as the sunlight fell on them. 

 

As evening fell, the lights moved through altered states from a tranquil bubbling waterfall of blues and greens, through shimmering rain and sparkling patterns to swirling shapes, flickering fire and ice. 

 

The animations travelled the entire length of the 20 metre light strings and then shot and swirled across the ground, connecting the verticals and ground lighting to create a huge, syncronised display. 

 

The result was an epic 10 minute, near 360 degree immersive audio and light show that showcased Kew’s famous Treetop Walkway in a whole new light.

As people enter the mirrored space they are surrounded by lights which create beautiful reflections and colours, all set to a custom quadraphonic soundscape.

 

Ditto was commissioned by Winter Lights Canary Wharf as a site specific installation. Built around the existing seating area at Wren Landing, a mirrored framework was built inside the space and hung with thousands of reflective spherical lights and hidden speakers, creating an immersive ‘infinity’ experience.

Ithaca returned to GlasGLOW in 2019 with an extraterrestrial-themed light installation. Over 10,500 individually mapped LED spheres were spread across the lawns at Glasgow Botanical Gardens supplemented with 13 moving beams and colourful gobo projections that lit up the surrounding holly bushes and sky.

 

The show featured a bespoke soundtrack & accompanying lighting design that was inspired by 1980s Sci-fi and more recent TV hits such as Stranger Things.

Sea of Light: Lightscape 2019 is an 8 minute long bespoke sound and light experience that featured over 4,500 individually controlled LED spheres, meticulously programmed along to a custom music soundtrack by Ithaca.

Specifically designed to compliment the natural beauty and immaculate landscape of Chicago Botanic Garden, the installation succeeds in creating a 360 degreee walk-through immersive and captivating show that does not distract from the site’s existing features.

Ithaca were brought on board to light up the 8 metre long chameleon from the inside, allowing its true colours to shine as night fell.

Working with the landscape, this animated river of light curves and flows around the paths and landscape in perfect harmony with the gardens, creating a walk-around immersive sound and light show.

]]> Redbull | Dance Your Style https://ithaca.studio/2020/02/14/redbull-dance-style/ Fri, 14 Feb 2020 11:15:56 +0000 https://ithaca.studio/?p=4460 The UK finals of Red Bull’s Dance Your Style took place at London’s Cabaret Club in July 2019. 

 

Sixteen dancers faced off in a one-on-one street dance competition to be crowned UK Champion. 

 

Ithaca were asked to design an audio-reactive installation for the venue entrance to welcome the crowd and set the scene. 

 

A combination of haze, wash lights and a custom rig of high-powered, slim beam lights placed on raised platforms were placed along the entrance corridor and synced to the DJ in the main room. The individual beam of lights rose and fell in time to the music as pulses of colour shot along the length of the space.
